Advanced Materials Analysis & Testing Lab (AMAT-Lab)

The research and service activities carried out at AMAT-Lab include the design and characterization of materials and devices for applications in Advanced Materials, Green Chemistry and Life Sciences. These include: innovative polymers and composites from macro to nanoscale, bioartificial and biocompatible systems, agri-food and medical packaging, industrialization and scaling up of prototypes.

Main Research Activities

The research and service activities carried out in the laboratory fall within the disciplinary sectors: IBIO-01/A, CHEM-06/A and IMAT-01. The laboratory focuses on the design and characterization of polymer-based materials, specifically polyurethane (PU) foams, sorbent materials for carbon capture, phase change materials (PCMs), and advanced packaging. Health research focuses on producing, characterizing and scaling up biodegradable scaffolds and prototypes for tissue engineering, developing intelligent nanoparticles and molecularly imprinted polymers for drug targeting. These activities have been conducted within European and national research projects.

Instrumentation

To carry out these activities, AMAT-Lab is equipped with the following instrumentation:
